★ Character Information ★
Character Name: Pela Cintri ("PELL-ah SIN-tree")
Character Age: 94 (appears late 20s)
Character Species: Human Magi
Current Health: Alive, fully healthy
Outfit: image

Character Canon: Original ("Knimyre")
History: Knimyre is a fantasy world composed of six major continents: Eajorynn, Druah Brana, Tarizong, Seaslund, Aithagor, and Leunia. The world's population is solely human, of which a small percentage possess magical abilities, referred to as magi or magifolk. Magic in Knimyre is divided into many schools, but there is no skill crossover between them. For example, a magi who can enchant clothing wouldn't be able to command animals, even if they were shown explicitly how to do so.

A ward-witch (non-gender specific) has the ability to create magical barriers, shields, and forge eldritch links between people and items. They can be made invisible by particularly skilled ward-witches, but these workings most often manifest as brightly glowing lines. These are capable of repelling physical assault, preventing someone from crossing one, or restraining someone depending on the spell. These ward lines can last anywhere from a few seconds to years, depending on the corresponding amount of energy dedicated to them during casting. Like all magifolk, ward-witches age at a slower rate than non-magical humans.

Supernatural entities also inhabit Knimyre, and these are collectively referred to as Wights or Wightfolk. Throughout history, magifolk were particularly sought to protect the various kingdoms from them, as they were thought to pose a significant threat to humans. While this was not always true, Wightfolk were systematically driven out wherever they were found until it seemed that very few of them remained. Thus the need for individuals like ward-witches became almost nonexistent for their original purpose, instead becoming used by their respective kingdom's elite for personal means. What began as a good faith partnership between the ruling class and magifolk evolved over the centuries into a one-sided and enforced obligation, where they were required to be in the service of the kingdom or be punished.

Canon Point: Three months after arriving in Gascea, the capital of Eajorynn, after being summoned by the Crown.

★ Folkmore Roles & Attributes ★

Skills:
WEAVER → A trade she picked up originally as a hobby and fell in love with, Pela loves working with a loom and dyes. She knows a fair amount about fabric crafts in general, but weaving is her favourite.
PRECISION STRIKE → Pela's preferred weaponry are throwing knives or throwing darts, and she habitually has several on her person.
RURAL UPBRINGING → As a member of a small and mostly rural community, Pela has a strong foundation of arcadian knowledge such as farming, fishing, and domestic crafting.

Canon Abilities: Pela is a formally trained ward-witch with years of experience that belie her younger appearance. She can create many types of shields, bindings, and barrier defenses magically. She can also use her wards offensively as a weapon, although she prefers not to unless absolutely necessary.

Role: Familiar
Role Qualities/Attributes: As a familiar, she will gain the ability to transform into a resplendent quetzal (1, 2, 3). While in her regular human form, feathers will occasionally be intertwined in her hair.
Role Reasoning: While Pela has strong personal ethics, she isn't a leader or at least doesn't see herself as one. She favours a supportive role, helping others whether through her magical abilities, or simply through being a friend to someone. Making other people happy makes Pela happy too, and the idea of her dedicating to another character in order to assist them is appealing both to her as a character, and to me as a player. Ideally I would like to see her dedicate to a Myth type character (sunshine meets grump, etc) but I plan to see how she develops in game and let her CR form naturally to see where it leads.

★ Personality (Option 1)★

On the surface, people observe Pela as upbeat and gregarious, an adventurer in heart if not always in practice. She has a tendency not to think before she acts, and to be motivated by emotion, impulse, and instinct rather than logical thought. She is quick to help others, sometimes even to the detriment of herself, but she often craves positive reinforcement and acknowledgement.

Pela employs charm and humour in equal parts, and has let the assumption that she is a little airheaded work to her benefit in the past. She is more likely to diffuse a tense situation with a bawdy joke than a drawn weapon. It takes a lot to get on her bad side, and Pela usually makes friends (or at least easy acquaintances) readily, then treats them well and with care. She is the person who will remember all the birthday and anniversary dates, how someone takes their tea, and send handwritten thank you notes. Her love of other people, of relationships and friendships, is genuine and well-meaning. If truly angered however, Pela can absolutely be spiteful and petty. She has a protective streak a mile wide, and it extends to those of both personal importance to her, and those whom she feels are unable to defend themselves.

In regards to being a ward-witch, she has some complicated feelings. Of the actual ability, she views it positively and through her training and experience, takes great pride in her level of skill. Yet ward-witches in general are considered a "lower class" of magi in Knimyre, a blue-collar equivalent to which no particular import is paid. It is a less "in demand" type of magi than types whose abilities can be more directly used by non-magi, and this can cause Pela to become defensive about her abilities, especially to other magic users.

With the Wightfolk threat having all but disappeared, Pela views this as something of a mixed blessing: it means she is rarely called upon and can be left alone by Crown's royal requirements, but by the same token she feels invalidated. Because of this, she can be resentful of authority, particularly monarchy and especially if they are haughty and treat others as mere tools or assets. She feels disillusioned by the way the kingdom's current political climate treats magifolk, and although she is legally pledged to Eajorynn's service, she has little personal loyalty to the Crown.

Ultimately, Pela wants to be in charge of her own life and be released from the Crown's obligations. As is the case with most magifolk, she has outlived all her immediate family and wants to see more of the world, to make a name for herself as she chooses.
